FAQ
From CSLWiki
Please note that we will allways use the male gender all through this page for pure sake of clarity: no mean to diminish all others genders in the galaxy.

General
What happens when a player dies into the Combine?
The player is dead, so he cannot play Shockball anymore and we'll place him on "retired" status permanently. The actual CSL retirement will happen the week after death in the Combine; this is intentional and meant to allow managers and owners to organize the team.
Where can I see the matches going on?
- Click on the link Season
- There is a big link on top of the page named "Schedule for week [number]". Click on it.
- A list with all the matches will appear. You can click on the magnifying glass to watch the match
Player
Can you tell me the secret to be a good player?
No. And we are not telling you not because we are evil, but because there are no secrets. The value of a player depends on a number of characteristics and variables, involving his/her skills and role played.
As you can see in the Players Rules page, there are primary and secondary skills.
What we can give you as a further element of meditation when creating your player, is that you can distinguish two main groups of skills:
- a group composed of throwing, passing, and blocking skills;
- another group composed of the remaining skills (i.e., Toughness, Agility, Vision, Endurance, Leadership).
How do I create my player?
Here we can explain how to create your player, but not what is the best initial distribution of your initial skill points (see question above).
Let's have a look at the screen you get after your registration:
At the top, you must set your Gender and Race. These data must correspond to your character in SWC, otherwise you will be fined. If you make a mistake and you create your player with the wrong race or gender, please contact a CSL admin as soon as possible and your mistake will be fixed.
You start with 37 points to distribute to some or all the skills. You can also note that three skills have already some points in them: Thoughness (30 points), Agility (30 points), and Endurance (45 points). These points correspond to level 6 and level 9 (you gain one level each 5 points).
These points are already there in order to prevent having a player who is too weak to stay in the court. You can decide to leave them as they are, or to add more points into those skills.
Adding skill points is quite easy: you click on the "+" or "-" sign to increase or decrease respectively that particular skill. This is true for all skills but Thoughness and Agility, which are slightly different.
If you want to add points to Thoughness and/or Agility, you need to do it in two steps:
- First, you need to add points in the Thoughness/Agility Total (the dark grey row);
- Second, you can click on the "+" or "-" beside Agility or Thoughness in the two rows below.
When adding points, you will notice that in some skills 1 points makes the skill raise by 1 point, whereas some other skills (namely Endurance, Leadership) make the skill increase of more than 1 point.
When you have distributed your 37 points you are not finished, however. You have still a bonus: 2 points to be given to one of the skills with the radio button (i.e., Pass, Throw, Block, Vision, Leadership).
Take the time to re-check everything before clicking on "Submit". You have only one chance to make your player as you like.
Team
What is the difference between Owner, Manager, and Coach? Are there different privileges on the team management?
The Coach is not an official CSL role: anyone who decide player subs and training is the coach.
The Owner is the individual who bought the franchise; he/she/it has all the privileges:
- Manages identity (logos, mascot, etc)
- Manages roster (buy/sell players, etc)
- Appoints a Manager
- Appoints a Captain
- Can deal with contracts
- Sets up the team for the matches
The Manager is a team player appointed by the Owner who will help to manage the team. A Manager could only:
- Appoint a Captain
- Set up the team for the matches
- Can deal with contracts
Both Owner and Manager could always access their team's pages and setup.
ATTENTION: there is no control over that! If you both edit settings at the same time it could lead to impredictable results!!
To set/unset/change the Team Manager, Owners must DM Nat`rhon L`uukh with all the infos.
Can an Owner play for another team?
NO. You cannot own a team AND play for another team. However, you can play for the team you own, or just be an owner and don't play.
What is the role of the Captain?
The Captain is usually the player with the highest Leadership in the team. The Captain's role is to lead and boost the team's morale.
Of course, the leadership of all players in the team contributes to the team's bonus, but the Captain's leadership value adds a multiplier to that bonus. For this reason, it is strongly advised that the Captain be a player with high Leadership.
The fact of the Captain being in the court, or being benched, modifies the team bonus as well.
How do I customize my team?
Team owners can customize the team identity as well as add customized entrance text that will be shown at the beginning of the match.
The customized entrance texts appear between the welcoming standard sentence (e.g. "Welcome at the Supernovae Stadium on Endor, where the Endor Supernovae will fight against the Kabal Onslaught.") and the sentence about drones (e.g. "Everyone is booing here!").
The sequence is therefore:
- Welcome at...
- Away team customized entrance text
- Home team customized entrance text
- Everyone is booing here!
If the team owner doesn't add a customized entrance text, the list of all the team's players will be displayed. On the other hand, if the entrance text is present, this text will appear but not the list of all players.
This feature allows the owner to write the list of players manually, or use placeholders. The available placeholders are:
- %Owner (only the name of the Owner appears)
- %Captain (only the name of the Captain appears)
- %Players (the name of all the remaining players appear separated by a comma)
Bold and italic can be used, by putting the relevant HTML tag in the text field.
STATS & TRACKERS
I've checked my playing time and the one on stats is wrong: it's too low!
Field time is calculated using actual field time: since there are dead ball times between each action, after a foul, etc. that's why your field time is minor to the clock one.
