History of the CSL

Pre GSL

Far away from the corrupt politics, the dangerous trading, and stacked gambling there exists a sport that has lasted through the ages. Here in the outer rim worlds a sport is still being played that mixes all races for a common goal...to win. They call it Shockball, and it inloves extreme danger for the players and extreme excitement for the fans.

It has sat quietly in the outer rim for centuries...until NOW! Colonial Recycling Corporation's recent expansion to the outer rim has exposed its employees to this grueling game. On the wings of these newly aquired fans it has travelled to the heart of the galaxy.

Teams from major population centres have been formed and are ready to test their skills against the veterans of the outer rim, fellow newcomers, and the harsh fans. An instant fan of the action and lover of the sport, Troon Kebris (CEO of CRC), and his hardworking team have painstakingly taken the efforts to unify the game by promoting and publicising the team's victories and defeats.

Match Report

The weather was very fine for this match in the first round of the CSL. The Vosadii Vipers, in their first match ever in the CSL, flew into town to take on the Cybot Sentinels. The stadium was filled to overflowing as the fans and curious alike poured through the gates, to catch a glimpse of Shockball in action.

Both teams were approaching this game a little wary. The first half was very slow paced, with both teams feeling the other out. The Vipers seemed happy enough to field both a balanced line-up and formation. Cybot, with the home advantage, still felt the need to sure up their defence by fielding a formation that was somewhat defensive.

As the first half drew to a close, the scores were very close. The Vipers offence had managed to infiltrate a number of times, scoring 3 goals in the process, while Cybot only managed the one goal for the half. Vipers went into the sheds with 54% of the possession, and the lead, with the score at half time in their favour 30-25.

At half time, both teams made some changed. Vipers only changed personnel, making the mandatory substitution, as Allen Anders made way for Dulgan Rost. Jaggo the Hutt opted once more not to talk with his team. Cybot needed to change things up at half time. Not only did they bring on Mya Thane to replace Yurist Dane, but they also changed their formation to a more offensive organization.

The second half was much quicker paced, with some truly end-to-end Shockball. Sena Reu sent a scare through the Vipers camp as she went down hard after being shocked, midway through the second half. Reu however was able to shake off the effects and continue. The possession over the second half remained in the Vipers favour with 52% of the ball. Cybot managed to claim 4 goals for the half, however it was not enough, with Vipers running out the winners today.

Match Report:

A windy day greeted the fans at SithRay Stadium, as the home team would start their campaign against the TGM Thrashers. This match-up was considered by many as a potential rivalry starter, as the two ship building companies faced off. The SithRays looked happy to attempt to capitalise on their home advantage, opting for an attacking formation. On the other hand TGM looked to try to cover all their bases with a balanced approach.

The TGM side dominated the first half as they plundered 58% of the possession, managing to slot 5 goals. The SithRays were clearly suffering from lack of practice, as their ability to work together was shown to be very lacking.

At half time, the required substitutions were made, with SFS looking to increase their teamwork and defence. Their second half line up was arguably their strongest possible team.

The second half was a complete turn around with SFS managing to capture 56% of the possession, thanks largely to their increased teamwork. However, despite out scoring the TGM team 4 goals to 3 in the second half, it was not enough to stop the TGM side from stealing the victory.

Match Report:

The Starstrikers fans were in good spirits as they filled the stadium to see their team take on the medics. The preseason had been tough for the Starstrikers, but many fans hoped that the team manager had ironed out the problems.

The Medics had come to play a balanced game away from home. The Starstrikers, possibly still in shock over their two losses in the preseason came out with a defensive line-up.

The medics seemed to be able to control the match from the outset. Their superior teamwork and composure easily negating the efforts of the star strikers. With 58% of the possession, the medics managed to slot 5 goals to 2 and take a 10-point lead into halftime.

At the break, both sides made some changes to their personnel. The Starstrikers seemed a little more composed after the break and managed to peg back the possession a little. However their feeble attack could not penetrate the Medics defence once in the second half and with the Medics still managing 56% of the possession, the Starstrikers were outclassed from beginning to end. Many punters are now thinking this could be a very long season for the Starstrikers.

Match Report

This match up today at the Kothlis Arena was shaping up as the match of the round. Both teams seemed fairly evenly matched in most areas.

Kothlis looked to press their advantage early with an attacking formation, where as the Titans would attempt to hit their opponents on the counter with a defensive line-up.

The Titans came out really fired up in the first half. Not only did they manage to slot 7 goals for the half, but they also managed to control possession with 52% of the ball. Many fans were left stunned at the lack of attitude and commitment shown from their Kothlis team.

At the half, both teams changed it up a bit, with Kothlis changing to a defensive formation. The Kothlis team had some work to do to catch up, and after a tongue lashing from team manager Jarek Sankin, the Kothlis team turned their attitude right around for the second half. They managed to suffocate the Titans, by controlling 58% of the ball for the half and outscoring their opponents 2 goals to 1. It took them to the last minute of play, but Kothlis managed to turn around the halftime deficit to run away with the win in a glorious fight back.

Match Report:

This match up today was seen as many as the hardest game of the round to pick. With the home ground advantage it was very hard to tip against the swarm. Both teams seemed to stick with familiar patterns with the TwinSuns opting for a balanced approach, where as the Swarm were looking for a first up win with an attack formation.

The first half was very tight with the TwinSuns managing to get 52% of the ball with some very good teamwork. However, the lack of team cohesion from the Swarm was hurting their chances, with the TwinSuns going to the break with an 8-point lead, despite scoring 6 goals to 5.

At the half, all required changes were made, however neither side changed their formations. The second half was more of the same, however the deficit at the half clearly hit the morale of the Swarm as they did not seem to be in the mood for playing. Controlling 52% of the ball again, the TwinSuns ran out comfortable winners.

Game Report

A beautiful day saw the first preseason game underway. It was clear from the outset that the Swarm were looking for a lot of points as their attack seem really ramped up. However it did appear that they were sacrificing a little defence at the back as the TwinSuns were capable of executing a number of counter offensives. The Swarm looked a little sluggish, despite the home ground advantage, their attitude not up to the task. The superior defencisive tactics of the TwinSuns saw them manage to control much of the game, with the half time score being 37-28 in favour of the TwinSuns.

At half time changes were made. For the Swarm, Maghr Meln came on for Zane Holme, while for the TwinSuns Zander Zoggs was replaced with Robert Reyalmid The TwinSuns also appeared to look more in a defensive formation.

After the break it was obvious that the manager of the Swarm had fired his team up. Their attitude of the Swarm was greatly lifted! On the otherhand, the TwinSuns seemed to go to sleep, seeing the Swarm close the gap early. However, the Swarm never managed to overcome their lack of focus at the defensive line. The 2nd half was much better for the Swarm who got possession back to 50-50 and out scored their opponents. However the TwinSuns held on for a very close 72-68 victory.

Game Report:

A fine evening at Starstrikers arena greeted the thousands of fans, as the two teams had their first hit out of the new season. From the outset it was evident that the Starstrikers were looking to thrill their fans with a reliance on their attack. TGM on the other hand were happy to see what happened and take things as they came.

The attitude of the Starstrikers players seemed to be lacking in both intensity and direction, perhaps due to a severe breakdown in their composure. They appeared hurried and when underpressure gave up too much possession. Even though the TGM side fielded only an average attacking lineup, the lack of Defensive intent from the Starstrikers saw them find it hard to contain the Thrashers. At half-time, the Thrashers had a whopping 58% of the possession and it showed on the scoreboard, taking a commanding 38-28 lead into the sheds.

At the break, changes were made. Opting to protect their lead, TGM brought on Remus-Qui Organ. Trying to combat the severe lack of composure, Starstrikers had only one option and that was to bring on Helene Natta with her good leadership skills.

The second half started the same way as the first ended, with TGM controlling both the tempo and possession. It is hard to say where the Starstrikers went wrong after half-time but despite Natta coming on, the lost even more composure. Their attitude was certainly very lacking. Perhaps being introduced to the big time shockball world got the better of them. The high defense skills and tactics of TGM were too much for the just above average Attack of Starstrikers. The biggest problem was again the lack of focus on defence, with TGM easily able to hit their opponets on the counter attack. The possession increased for the TGM side, as they held onto the ball for an unbeatable 66% of the possession.

TGM Thrashers 81 Defeat Starstrikers 55

Game Report

Slight drizzle appeared early in the day, but fined up in the afternoon for the return match between The Swarm and The TwinSuns. The TwinSuns, coming off a well earned victory away from home, today found themselves with a great opportunity to press their advantage with a rousing performance at home.

It was clear from the outset that the home team wanted to capitalise on their home advantage and fielded an offensive lineup and had a killer look in their eyes. The Swarm on the other hand seemed to be erring slightly on the defensive side of things, yet possessed the same killer look as their opponents. There was no such thing as a friendly match for these two teams.

The first half was end to end shockball. The pace was fast and furious. The lead changed many times, but at the siren to signal halftime, the TwinSuns were up by just the difference of one goal. Even though they had scored more goals then the Swarm, the Swarm's skill with the stunners kept them in touch.

At half time changes were made, The TwinSuns, realising that their opponents were shooting them off the park in markmanship, switched Wor Burchi with Skye Kahn. The Swarm, confident in their shock skill, increased their defensive rating by swapping Maghr Meln for Telera Opuurin.

The second half possessed the same speed and frantic pace of the first. Both teams wanting to go into the regular season with some momentum. In the last moments of the game, the Swarm were up by 3 points, their defence for the most part keeping their opponents at bay, while picking up scores with shocks. However, just before the siren, the TwinSuns, urged on by their home crowd pressed forward one last time and slotted the winning goal past Swarm Guardian, Ubinaarisan Kovani.

Both teams can be very confident going into the regular season. After the first match-up, it seems like the Swarm have got things together and could be a major force. The TwinSuns, having won both games go into the season with good momentum and also seem to have a handle on how they will approach their matches.

Game Report:

Thunderstorms cracked over head as the players took the field at TGM arena. Trash talking between the two team managers had become public since the previous meeting between these two and as such the "friendly" concept of this match was left in the turbolifts.

Using their home ground advantage, TGM came out looking in a very attacking formation. The aura surrounding the players looked as if they were ready to put their pride on the line.

The Starstrikers, having learnt a serious lesson in the previous match looked more content to sit in defence and not appear to rush things everytime they touched the ball.

It was a ferocious first half, with possession falling in favour of the TGM side, 56% to 44%. This amount of possession though proved to be no real benefit, as the Starstrikers managed to slot 2 goals to 1 in the first half. However, the far superior shockskill of the TGM side ment at half time they went into the sheds infront 22-16.

At half time, changes were made. TGM, happy and confident in their lead, concentrated on improving their defence. Starstrikers, desperate to stay in the match moved things around to greatly increase their shockskill and composure.

The second half was also very tight. Every attack TGM sent, starstrikers were more then a match for. The Starstrikers counter offensives and improved shockskill managed to close the gap between the teams. The possession for the second half was very narrow with TGM still able to maintain the majority of the ball, with 52% possession. Despite Starstrikers scoring 2 goals to nil in the second half and outscoring their opponents, the strong shockskill of the TGM team managed to keep them in front the entire game. Their decision to boost their defense at half time, proved a masterstroke by team manager, Jim Firewalker.

Going into the regular season now, TGM can be very confident and are firming as one of the early favourites. They seem to possess great balance throughout their team and more importantly, their manager seems to be able to pull the right tactics at just the right time. Starstrikers can take something away from this preseason. Even though they were hammered in the first game, they were greatly improved in the rematch. What is worrying for the fans at this stage is that certain areas of the team seem to be a bit thin. This is something the team manager will need to look at and try to compensate for them somehow. Early predictions are saying that if the manager can not compensate, then the best the Starstrikers can hope for are a midtable finish, possibly scratching into the finals.

TGM Thrashers 47 Defeat Starstrikers 43

Kothlis V Rancors

Kothlis: Elmin Erantes (Capt.) - Left Flank Alema Jalba - Guardian Leo Starkos - Right Flank Oret Endivian - Aggressor

Rancors: Padme Machado - Attack, Captain Clarge Wendin - Left Flank Olothorin Mugaba - Right Flank Zefron Herme on Defense

Match Report:

Heavy fog descended onto Kothlis Stadium. The two teams both seeming eager to get their first CSL practice match underway. The home team looked to be taking this game just as it was ment, practice. They also seemed to be content to sit back in defence, giving their defensive tactics some work out. On the other hand, the Rancors wanted to take as much momentum into the season as they possibly could and were really fired up for this match. Even though they looked to rip the life out of their opponents, they managed to contain themselves into a defensive line up.

The first half was a little slow paced, with each side feeling the other out. The offensive prowess of the Rancors was on show, as they had over 30 shots at the goal, 28 of which were on target. However, the focus on defence of Kothlis, coupled with the skill of their guardian saw the great majority of shots be deflected, with the Rancors only managing to slot 2 goals for the half. The lack of overall defensive skill of the Rancors also saw Kothlis hit them on the break, managing to slot 3 goals for the half.

At half time, with possession evenly split 50% each, the Kothlis team went into the shed with their noses in front, 28-24.

At the half, both teams made changes. Kothlis seemed to stick with their tried and true formula with only the subsitution of bringing on Kale Thul. Rancors on the other hand, realising the game might be slipping away, changed it up. Not only did they bring on Follnor Finn, but also switched to a offensive style. This was a risky move by team manager Locago Besadii Tai, as although it gave them more chance of slotting more goals, but it also opened their defence a little more.

The second half saw the intencity pick up dramatically. Kothlis saw their team cohesion drop from their very high standards to just above average. This was probably caused the most by taking the game so lightly. This lack of team work saw the Rancor team get the majority of the possession, with 54% for the second half. The increase in offence from the Rancors also saw more goals getting past the guardian, with Rancors scoring 5 times for the half. However the defensive skills of the Kothlis team were still on top of the attack for the most part, with the Rancors needing 40 shots for their goals.

The lack of urgency from the Kothlis team, coupled with lack of possession saw United only manage to attack on the counter on 4 occasions, scoring 3 times in the process. Rancors paying dearly for a lack of defensive coverage. Perhaps if the Kothlis team had managed to secure more possession they could have managed to fend off the Rancor fightback, but alas the Rancors kept coming, scoring the winning two shocks in the final minute, bringing to a close one of the closest matches ever in CSL history.

A couple of people have expressed concerns that they may run out of players or injuries will be too common or whatnot. What I have done for the preseason (and preseason only) is ramp up the frequency of injuries. I did this so to show you guys what MIGHT be possible if you play a certain way etc. In my testing of the system I pretty much nutted out a fair injury frequency etc. I can ensure you 6 players will be enough. Also, looking ahead to player trading and possibly training etc for next season, your roster will probably be expanding to 8 or so players in the future. More to come on that at a later date.

Match Report

Most fans come to the stadium today, not really sure what to expect from these two teams. Excitement was building as there was only one game left after this match up of the pre-season.

The Titans, taking a homeground advantage in this match-up, looked to capitalise on this by coming out in an all out offensive style. Cybot, realising they were up against an aggressive opponent, played slightly on the defensive side of the line.

The first hald was pretty even for much of the time. The lack of any credible defence coverage from the Titans allowing Cybot to stay in reach. At half time, possession was shared 50% each, with the score very close at 45-42, Titans favour.

At half time, both managers wanted to change it up. Cybot changed to a more balanced approach and seemed to look more for shockpoints then goals. Titans dropped it back a gear, focusing a little more on defence, however they still were looking to score lots of goals.

As the second half wore on, it was evident that the Titans team were looking more at their defence, however they just could not get it together, their team work falling well below average. However, this did not stop them from extending their lead as the Cybot team scored lots of shocks, but did not manage to score nearly enough goals. Titans took the lead in both possession (52%) and the score line, running out winners. However, many reports indicate that had this match been played elsewhere, Titans very well may have lost this match.

Rancors: Clarge Wendin - Attack, Captain Follnor Finn - Left Flank Olothorin Mugaba - Right Flank Zefron Herme on Defense

Match Report:

The crowd was buzzing as they swarmed into the Rancors arena. The last time these two teams met, it was one of the tightest contested shockball game of all time. The fact it was only a practice preseason game only made the excitement for the regular season to start all the more grow.

Kothlis, playing away, still decided to start with an offensive formation. Clearly they did not want another 1 point loss. Rancors on the other hand seemed content to play the game as it came.

The first half started the way the last game finished. Very tight. Rancors however seemed to be missing their inspirational leader Padme Machado, as team manager, Locago the Hutt, decided to rest her for the regular season. However, the advantage of playing at home managed to raise the spirits of the Rancors. Despite a close half, and the possession going to United (54%), the Rancors relied heavily on their defense and counter attacks to score two very late goals in the first half to take the lead into the sheds. Half time score saw Rancors leading 29-21.

At half time, both managers wanted to rework their tactics. Kothlis reverted to a balanced style in an attempt to help their defence, however with their subsitute player coming on, the team cohesion lowered a little.

The Rancors stuck with their balanced approach, however with their subsitute, their shockskill and defence took a small hit.

Kothlis quickly came out in the second half and made up for the defeceit. However, the defence of the Rancors team was very tough. Despite even more possession falling to the Kothlis team, they still could not manage to bridge the gap enough, falling short by 4 points.

Looking back at the two games these teams played, it is easy to say that these two teams will be two of this seasons heavy weights. The first game was as tight as it gets, with nothing between the two. The second game is a more interesting one to analyse. If it had have been at Kothlis home, the lack of leadership shown by the Rancors today wouldl have been more of a factor, however it must be noted that they were also without their star player, Padme Machado. Having got the better of Kothlis in both games, Rancors must go in as one of the favourites for the season. Not forgetting though that given the right circumstances, Kothlis will also be very strong. Both teams are tipped to reach the finals. It will be interesting to see how the Vipers go against these teams. The vipers chose against any warm up games, and with star player Sena Reu fully fit, must also be considered a top place contender.

Match Report:

The crowd shuffled into Cybot arena with a small excitement. The regular season was just around the corner as this was the last preseason game. Cybot seemed a little out of sorts, and was hard to tell exactly what strategy they were trying to implement. At home, they were opting for a defensive looking formation. The titans were looking also to concentrate on their defence, and looked very much content to have a good game.

The first half was dominated by the away side, the Titans. Possession falling to them by a whopping 66%-34% margin. This was also reflected on the score board as at half time, the Titans took the lead at 40-21.

At half time, the Titans made just the one change in personnel, while Cybot not only changed their player, but also switched to a more attacking style. Once again, the report out of the sheds indicated that no pep talk was imparted to the Cybot players again.

The second half was much closer, with the Cybot team able to turn around the possession to claim 52% of the ball for the half. However the Cybot team's overall offence could not manage to overcome to brilliant defending of the Titans, so they could not bridge the gap in the score board.

These two teams are quite hard to analyse for the coming season. The Titans should be in contention come the business end of the season. They will need to work on their leadership and team work though. The teamwork in particular, as displayed in this game, it can be quite lacking. The better teams in the competition could easily exploit this hole. As for the Cybot team, one has to think that they can only hope for a mid-table finish if that. They certainly look to crack under pressure easily and with an average offence, could mean they are in for a very long season.

Rules

Shockball is played between two teams of four players each, where the object of the game is to score goals. There are two ways to score points. A goal is worth 5 points, with an additional point awarded for each opposing player stunned with the shock blaster. A game is played out over 80 minutes. These games are often brutal and demanding on the players, and exhilarating for the fans! Easy I hear you say? Well perhaps, but each member of the team is armed with a small, specially designed blaster that packs enough punch to render someone unconscious for 30 seconds. Each blaster needs a greuling 5 minutes to recharge after every shot, so selecting your target is very important. The field is also littered with many obstacles that can either hinder or aid a player's progress. The game is played using a small ball of energy, which can be passed between teammates by a simple toss. The opposing players can tackle, shoot or do anything else they wish in an attempt to gain possession of the ball.

Colonial Recycling Corporation has the honour of today announcing that they are bringing Shockball to a galaxy wide format!

Eight of the best teams from around the galaxy will vie for the first ever Colonial Shockball League Trophy.

During the course of the season, each team will play their opponents once (ie 7 rounds), with 3 points awarded to a team for a win, 1 for a draw and 0 for a loss. At seasons end, the top four teams will march to the finals! (In case of two or more teams having the same points total, finishing positions will be decided by the team that has scored the most points throughout the entire season).

The finals will work as follows:

  • Week One:
    • Preliminary Final A: Team 1 Vs Team 2 (winner to Colonial Bowl, loser to semi-final)
    • Preliminary Final B: Team 3 Vs Team 4 (loser eliminated, winner to semi-final)
  • Week Two:
    • Semi Final: Loser of Match A Vs winner of Match B (loser eliminated, winner to final)
  • Week Three
    • Grand Final: Winner of Preliminary Final A Vs Winner of Semi-Final

The Grand Final will be held each season in a different system, in the specially designed orbital stadium known simply as "THE COLONIAL BOWL"

File:TheColonialBowl.jpg‎

This giant orbital station has been transformed into the Colonial Shockball League's pride and joy. Once, it held its position as protector of the planet Averyon, now it houses over a million crazed fans. Rotating gyros allow a unique stlye of entertainment that is unmatched anywhere in the galaxy. The seats dont just stop once it reaches the equator of the spherical station, no...they keep going up and down. The seats are settled along the entire span of the inside wall, with the playing field in the middle. By using powerful magnets the field is able to 'float' in the center with no attatchments of any kind. The magnets on the inside of the arena repel those placed in the outer shell of the stadium, all the while maintaing a constant spin that is able to cause an artificial gravity in every corner of the station. The tricky part of the refitting was to give this moon sized behemoth the ability to go into hyperspace. After careful planning and much hard work, a tug system was established whereby these 'tug' ship pull the giant stadium through space to its desired destination.

The team was composed of 4 players, but their role names were a bit different from today:

  • Guardian
  • Right/Left Flanker
  • Aggressor

Flankers role was like wingers or wide receivers. They hanged out on the edges of the play and tried to outflank their opposition.

There were also 2 Reserve Players. Before the game begins the coach elected one player to be substitued (if he so wished) for another at half time. Also, the second reserve would come into play if the team suffered an injury.

The team playing at home had an advantage.

How it works

Here is how it works:

Firstly, each team manager MUST on their site have listed all their players and their stats. Table format would be appreciated.

Ok, the actual game:

Each week, I will simulate the rounds matches on a monday morning (bar any RL emergencies) -Australian time- and results posted on these forums. I will choose one game each week to turn into a GNS post with interviews with both team owners etc.

Each week BEFORE I simulate the game each team manager must DM me during the week with the following information:

Team lineup The lineup you decide on each week will also determine your teams overall stats for the weeks game. Your team WILL experience random injuries during this season so it is imperitive that you rotate your players. Each player can play a maximum of 5 weeks in a row before they need a weeks rest. Also, injuries will have a random week assigned based on severity. You also may want to change your team lineup around to focus on each individual opposition you face.

Tactics The tactics you use for your game will basically determine how your players play. You can choose from:

  • All out offence
  • Offence
  • Balanced
  • Defence
  • All out Defence

These are pretty self explanatory. You can opt to change your tactics at half time depending if you are winning or loosing. Just let me know in the DM what your choices are for either situation.

Substitutions

Subs work accordingly. You will nominate one player that will be swapped for another at half time. If a team suffers an injury prior to half time, the nominated sub player will take the injured players place - regardless of position. At half time then, if you have any remaining players on your roster, that player will complete the subsitution with the player you nominated, at half time. If the nominated player was the one injured, or you have no available players on your roster, then no substitution will happen at half time.

Team Talk This is something I wanted to introduce next season, but because it has taken so long to do the draft, its available now!

each week you will send your team out to battle. Before the game, you will need to nominate which of the following team talks you wish to use. (NB: If you use the wrong talk in the wrong situation, it could hurt your teams performance). You can opt to give a different team talk at half time if you so wish depending if yuo are winning or loosing. Just let me know in the DM what you would like to happen in either situation.

"Go out and enjoy the game, this game doesnt mean anything." "Have a good game." Nothing "The teams pride is at risk here." "I want to see their spleens splattered on the ground."

Other factors to consider

  • Home sides always have an offensive advantage
  • Morale of your team is dependant on the overall leadership stat of your team, your captains leadership, your winning/loosing streak, your chosen team talk and a small random factor.
  • The system I have developed does generate upsets on occasion. Do not complain to me if your masterful plan was undone by a lesser opponent. Upsets will happen. Expect them, plan for them and take it in the spirit of the game in which it is intended.

Pre-Season

I will allow each team to have two practice games before the season starts proper if they so wish. If they do, please post here and I will arrange it. Each team will have one home and one away practice. (Last Edit: Aug 6, 2008)

Additional: If you do not submit the required info for your team each week ( I will not chase you up for the info, it is your responsibility to remember), then your team forfeits and will loose 100-0 automatically.

Edit: You can now give me options for changing half time tactics for if you are loosing/winning. You can also change your team talk if you so wish.

pre-season games?

Ok, I finished up the draft today and crunched all the numbers. this will be a very tight season, and tactics will be the determining factor in many games.

Team stats are up on the "Teams of the CSL" page on the website. This figure is the team rating for all 6 players. Remember, a team picks 4 players to play, so a team with defence 5, could in some games end up having a defence rating of 8.

Now, pre-season games.

At this stage I have lined up:

2 games: Starstrikers V Thrashers (Starstrikers home, Thrashers away; then vice versa) - DM me all required info and I can run these games. (one game at a time please)

2 games: Kothlis United V Rancors (kothlis home, Rancors away, then vice versa) - DM me all required info and I can run these games. (one game at a time please)

2 Games: Biotech Medics V Cybot Sentinels (Medics home, Cybot away, then vice versa) - DM me all required info and I can run these games. (one game at a time please)

2 Games: Thyferra Swarm V Welfcom TwinSuns (Swarm home, TwinSuns away, then vice versa - DM me all required info and i can run these games. (one game at a time please)

I do not want the preseason taking forever so if we get no replies to this, I will start the season after the above games are run.

GSL-CSL Season 2

After the great success of Season 1, the victory by Kal'Shebbol Echelon, and the Outer Rim All Stars beating their colleagues of the Core Worlds conference, Season 2 brought thrilling expectations, with a huge increment of teams playing.

With the increased popularity of this sport, the "big dogs" jumped on the field with their own flags. Both the Galactic Alliance and the Imperial Union decided to step in and clash against each other on the field, too. The involvement of these bodies gave the CSL a true Galactic status, redeeming the shockball league from a simple professional, but mainly privately owned teams league. The Galactic Government was the first to acknowledge the grown popularity of the League, and the Falleen Federals were the first government-aligned franchise to join CSL.

The Galactic Empire signed with the Coruscant Knights and the Kothilis United, while the New Republic enrolled the Republica Rogues, and the Sullust Cavers. Mandalore, too, decided to give it a try, and supplied the League with the curiously named Dxun Bes'uliike, while rumors said that the Kiffex Outlaws were affiliated to the Black Sun.

Overall, fourteen new teams joined the franchise, and a new League was created: the MandalTech League (named after the sponsors).

During this Season some interference from Governments was reported. Issues like asking players to quit their current team in order to join another due to being members of that government caused much debate and specific rules against such interference were requested. However, CSL position was not to mingle sports and politics, and asked the managers to concentrate themselves in developing team affiliation, this being the best investment for any team or group.

The second season was won by Kabal Onslaught, with Calivir Crushers at second place.

Playoff structure

TGM League
The 1st and 2nd teams in each conference will play 3 times against each other. The winners will do the final. Matches were played on Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday, then those who pass play again on Sunday.

MT League
The 1st team was promoted automatically to the TGM league (corresponding conference), while the 2nd and 3rd teams in the same conference had to win 2 out of 3 games against each other. The winner of these 3 matches would play against the last team of the TGM league (corresponding conference). If the MT won over the TGM one, it was promoted and the TGM demoted.

CSL Season 2 Awards Ceremony

GSL-CSL Season 3

Season 3 was very different from Season 2. TGM, the élite League, was brought to 10 teams to allow for more games, more fun, and more "chances" for teams to get better and give a shot at the Glove. On the other hand, MT League increased from 14 to 20 teams. TGM matches were held on Sundays, whereas MT League matches were played twice a week: on Sundays and Wednesdays.

The third season was won by the Corulus Guardians who scored 47 points against the 40 points scored by Kabal Onslaught in a thriving match with winning spurts from both teams. With the first half of the match dominated by the Onslaught, the Guardians managed to turn the outcome upside down and showed an uncommon growth in their ranks, outperforming the current Champions and becoming themselves Super Clash winners.

The MT Championship was won by the Boordii Steampunks.

GSL-CSL Season 4

Season four witnessed several changes in the League. One main change was the formation of a final and third tier for the CSL competition. This bottom tier was named "Hell" by players and fans.

Due to the sale of TransGalMeg Industries - main sponsor of CSL - the league had no choice but to reopen all negotiations. As a result, Black Sun Trading Syndicate became the new main sponsor of the League, and Tier 1 was known as "Black Sun Galaxy Cup".
On the other hand, Mandalore continued its support by reaffirming their commitment to the second tier of the League, affectionately known as the MandalTech League since its formation.
The newly formed Tier 3 was knowns as the GMC League, with Galacian Mining Corporation being the inaugural sponsor of this league.

Tier 1 and 2 were composed of ten teams each, while Tier 3 included the last fourteen teams. The regular season was played on Sundays (no mid-week matches as in Season 3). GMC League spanned for 16 weeks with no playoffs, and the two best teams were promoted to Tier 2.
The BSGC and MT Leagues lasted also 16 weeks, and had their playoff and promotions/relegations, as follows.

The whole schedule spanned for 16 weeks: for 13 weeks in the classic form of CSL: 2 games against every team from the same conference, and 1 game against teams from the opposite one. The playoffs took place in week 14 and 15, and the Super Clash and MT Championship were held in week 16.

BSGC League Playoffs

  • week 14: Playoff 1st round best of three (2nd team versus 3rd team of each conference)
  • week 15: Playoff 2nd round best of three (winner of round 1 versus 1st of each conference)
  • week 16: Super Clash

MT League Playoffs

  • Week 15: playoffs for promotion (2nd team versus 3rd team of each conference)
  • Week 16: MT Championship (1st team of each conference)

The playoffs were played on Sunday/Tuesday/Thursday, and for the MT League, the best team and the playoff winner on each conference were promoted to the BSGC League.

In the BSGC and MT Leagues two teams from each conference were relegated. In the GMC League, the two best teams were promoted to the MT League.

In case of ties on playoffs (i.e. 1 win, 1 lost, 1 tie for each team), the winner was decided based on the total amount of points scored in the three playoffs matches. This was intended to favour the team who made the best performance during the final phase, considering also that the team who made the best performance during the season was already favoured by the home advantage. In the rare case that both teams had scored the same amount of points, then the best placed team during the season won the final place.

This new organisation made easier for teams to move up and down and adapt wherever they played. The formation of three tiers added competition to the sport, with many more chances to change tier (for better or worse) and recover from bad seasons.

Another main change was the introduction of sentients referees. Ten referees entered the show, and they acted in Tier 1 and 2. Droid referees kept serving in Tier 3.

On Year 12 Day 60 Troon Kebris died. He was considered the "Father of Shockball" and a minute of silence was done as a tribute to his memory at the beginning of every match on Week 1.
Troon's place in the GSL Board was taken by Kordath Stryder.

Second Season Structure Announced

by Azmatha Secura - Year 11 Day 63, 9:47

In a press conference earlier today, CSL President Troon Kebris unveiled the brand-new structure of the league. Citing unprecendented and unpredicted growth and over double the teams of last season, Kebris announced that the league would be split into two- Tier 1, the Elite league and the Tier 2, the Secondary league. Teams who were in CSL last season, such as the Kabal Onslaught, will be automatically placed into Tier 1 whereas the new teams, such as the Falleen Federals, will be entered into Tier 2.

"At the end of the season, the top teams from the Tier 2 will replace the bottom teams from Tier 1," said Kebris, sporting a mischevious grin. "Should provide a good incentive to remain at the top of your game and to play your hardest- imagine how embarrassing it would be to get bumped down! In the end this will just make CSL that much more exciting to watch for our fans."

SEASON 2

by Doner Kebab - Year 11 Day 73, 2:46

Season 2 wil bring many changes to the professional Shockball League. First of all, quite visible and known by everybody, many more teams. 14 new teams have signed on for the season, gathering new players from all the corners of the galaxy (which, by all evidence, must be a whole lot !). That asked for a renovation, and adjustment, in the league structure. Two tiers have been created, keeping the Season 1 teams, with a notable exception being the Douglas Rangers who bought the rights from ex-Corulus Rangers, in Tier 1, now named TGM League (after its sponsor name), and all new teams in Tier 2, which name is, anyway, still up for grabs by any faction willing to spend a few creds (some million of few creds, anyway) to see its own name associated with it throughout the season. Early rumors hinted that the reason for the 2 tiered schedule was due to new players being referred as "crap", as they were mostly coming out of nowhere to try their luck in the professional league, attracted by easy money and wide visibility in the news. It has later been explained that matching up experienced teams with fresh ones would have been unfair to the new ones. The League devised the 2 tiers to allow the new teams to "make up their bones", so to say, and only go to clash against the veterans if and when they prove good enough to master their own conference. Small change reason could be that a political fight would have risen from deciding which team should have been included into the tier 1 league, now that many government aligned franchises have signed up. To keep it fair, honest, and peaceful, I daresay, they all went into the "lesser" league, and praise to CSL admins for this ! While TGM League will keep its 10 weeks schedule, tier 2 will have a lenght of 12, to allow for the higher number of teams. They won't follow the same pattern of 2 times vs same conference + 1 time vs other conference teams, but will use a division approach, with each team playing divisional opponents twice, and then teams from 2 of the remaining divisions once. Again, much rumor has hinted at why this new approach to schedule. Some said it's been randomly chosen by the computer drawing the match-ups, some that the admins had no clue and just patched up something... again, someone hinted that they were trying to keep the enemy govs teams as far away from each other as they could ! Probably, all of this worked a part in the scheduling, can't rule that out, but nobody from CSL cared to explain, and everybody will just have to stay in the dark until they do !
